Mona residents voiced strong opposition and concerns at a heated public meeting about the proposed Nebo North data center. The Juab County Commission approved a conditional use permit in April, while opponents said the community was not adequately notified and raised concerns about the facility’s proximity to homes.

Mona residents attended a contentious meeting to hear more from the developer of the proposed Nebo North data center and to address the project with the Mona City Council. The facility would reportedly occupy an area equivalent to about 20 Costco stores and be located a few hundred feet from nearby homes.

The Juab County Commission granted the project a conditional use permit in April, but opponents said Mona officials and residents were not informed about the hearing. The developer said the site was selected because of its proximity to two substations, major transmission lines, fiber infrastructure, Interstate 15 and the Wasatch Front economy. The meeting’s public comment period continued well beyond the scheduled end time, with heated exchanges between attendees and city officials. The developer said he wants to hold additional community meetings.
