Hancock County Board Begins Ordinance Process on Data Centers
The Hancock County Board of Supervisors has begun developing an ordinance to regulate data center construction and operations. The proposed zoning amendment would classify data centers as conditional uses while the county considers broader zoning updates, and the outline has been sent to the Board of Adjustment for development.
The Hancock County Board of Supervisors in Iowa has started the process of regulating data center construction and operations through an amendment to the county’s zoning ordinance. The proposal would change data centers from permitted uses to conditional uses, giving the county additional review authority while zoning updates are developed.
Supervisor Gary Rayhons presented an outline for consideration by the Board of Adjustment, while Supervisor Sis Greiman reiterated earlier support for a construction moratorium. The supervisors voted to forward the outline to the adjustment board for further development; no moratorium or final zoning amendment was adopted.
