Spokane County Extends Data Center Moratorium Through June 2027
The Spokane County Board of Commissioners unanimously extended the county’s moratorium on accepting data center permit applications through June 1, 2027. Commissioners said the extension will allow time for the Washington Legislature to consider data center issues while the county develops zoning regulations to mitigate potential impacts.
The Spokane County Board of Commissioners unanimously extended the county’s pause on data center permit applications through June 1, 2027. Commissioner Al French said the county lacks authority to ban data centers and must instead develop regulations to address their impacts.
The extension is intended to give the Washington Legislature time to discuss data center policy during its 2027 session. Planning Director Scott Chesney said an updated draft zoning ordinance is available on the county’s website for public review.
