The Spokane County Board of County Commissioners is expected to consider extending its pause on data center building permit approvals through June 1, 2027. The pause would give the county time to develop zoning restrictions after years of discussions involving developer Apricus Energy Partners.

Spokane County commissioners are expected to consider a new pause on approvals for data center building permits, extending the county’s existing restrictions through June 1, 2027. The measure would give officials additional time to develop zoning rules for large computing and storage facilities.

The pause follows a years-long saga involving County Commissioner Al French and data center developer Apricus Energy Partners. The existing pause was scheduled to expire Dec. 15, while the proposed extension remains under consideration by the Board of County Commissioners.
