Recall effort against Lincoln County commissioners fails
A recall effort against three Lincoln County commissioners in Nebraska failed to gather enough signatures to force a vote. The commissioners had previously voted against a data center moratorium, which prompted the recall attempt. Organizers fell short of the required 35% of votes from each commissioner's 2024 race.
A recall effort targeting three Lincoln County commissioners in North Platte, Nebraska—Joe Hewgley, Chris Bruns, and Jerry Woodruff—has failed. The commissioners had previously voted against a data center moratorium in July, which instigated the recall attempt.
To force a vote, organizers were required to collect signatures from registered voters in each commissioner’s district, amounting to at least 35% of the votes cast in that commissioner’s 2024 race. Lincoln County Clerk Becky Rossell stated that 1,147 signatures were needed for Hewgley, 925 for Bruns, and 864 for Woodruff. Petition circulator Dave Huebner notified the county clerk’s office shortly before the Thursday 5 p.m. deadline that the organizers had not obtained the necessary signatures.
