Lancaster City Council will meet to consider amending the zoning code for data center projects
Lancaster City Council is holding a special meeting to discuss amending the zoning code for AI data centers. A proposed ordinance would allow current data center projects as special exceptions. These projects include developments on Greenfield Road and Harrisburg Pike, with a community benefit agreement requiring low-noise, clean energy, and water reuse systems.
The Lancaster City Council is scheduled to convene a special meeting on Wednesday evening to deliberate on proposed amendments to the city's zoning code, specifically concerning artificial intelligence data center developments. The primary focus is a proposed ordinance that would designate current data center projects, including those situated on Greenfield Road and Harrisburg Pike, as special exceptions within the zoning framework.
Furthermore, the city has reportedly established a community benefit agreement with the developers of these projects. This agreement mandates the incorporation of environmentally conscious features, such as low-noise operating systems, the utilization of clean energy sources designed to produce minimal to no greenhouse gas emissions, and the implementation of a closed-loop system for water reuse. The public hearing for this agreement is slated for 6 p.m. at City Hall.
