Pettis County imposes two-year moratorium on applications tied to data center developments
The Pettis County Commission adopted a two-year moratorium on applications for certain large economic development projects, including potential data center developments in unincorporated areas. The pause will remain in effect until an economic development or environmental impact study is completed and reviewed.
The Pettis County Commission voted Oct. 15 to impose a two-year moratorium on applications tied to certain economic development projects involving at least 30 acres or an investment of at least $5 million in unincorporated areas. The order also covers related permits, site plans and road-use applications, and will remain in place until required economic development or environmental impact studies are completed and reviewed.
Commissioner Mark Edwards said the county has received inquiries from concerned residents and groups, as well as a proposal that he believes falls outside the moratorium's jurisdiction. The action follows a separate six-month pause in neighboring Benton County, where a judge halted the ordinance while considering a developer's lawsuit over a proposed facility near Warsaw.
