Prince William County residents and the Coalition to Protect Prince William County have created a petition seeking a 12-month pause on new data center development. The petition also supports a statewide moratorium and highlights concerns about the power demand and scale of NTT's data center complex near Gainesville.

Residents of Prince William County, working with the Coalition to Protect Prince William County, are petitioning the Board of County Supervisors to impose a 12-month pause on new data center development requiring county approval. The group says the pause would give officials time to update the county's Design and Construction Standards Manual and establish stronger protections for residents.

Coalition Director Elena Schlossberg said the petition responds to the rapid expansion of data centers and the volume of already-approved projects awaiting construction. The coalition planned to announce the petition at a media conference in Gainesville, near NTT's data center complex, which is planned to include four 550,000-square-foot buildings and have peak power demand equivalent to about 468,000 homes. The petition also endorses a statewide data center moratorium.
