Residents in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, are expressing significant worry and opposition regarding a proposed data center development on a 186-acre farmland site near Higgins and Sutton roads. The village of Hoffman Estates confirmed that Karras Critical purchased the property and indicated an interest in building a data center.

Karras Critical is advising He Holdings LLC, which is seeking approval for rezoning the land from a commercial, mixed-use, and traditional neighborhood designation to a manufacturing district. Residents, including John Halsted, who lives across the street from the site, are against the project, citing concerns about environmental impact, health, and potential traffic.

Despite the village manager stating that a specific site plan has not yet been developed, residents have already submitted letters to the Plan Commission, urging them to deny the rezoning request. The Plan Commission is scheduled to hold a public hearing on the matter, which residents plan to attend.
