However, some commissioners expressed concerns that this 50-megawatt threshold could create loopholes, potentially allowing smaller but still significant data centers to avoid the moratorium. The temporary halt aims to provide county officials with time to develop comprehensive regulations for future data center development.
These forthcoming regulations will address critical issues such as noise pollution, water consumption, overall electrical demand, and ensuring land-use compatibility within the county. Officials clarified that applications submitted before July 7th will continue through the existing review process, unaffected by the proposed moratorium.
