Camden County residents meet to discuss data center concerns ahead of moratorium end
Camden County residents met in Kingsland to discuss concerns about potential data center construction, including resource consumption and impacts near homes. The county’s six-month data center moratorium is expected to expire, while county commissioners are developing an ordinance to regulate future projects.
Camden County residents gathered at the College of Coastal Georgia in Kingsland for the first of three public meetings about potential data center development. The sessions are organized by the Southeast Georgia Innovation Campus and Georgia Tech’s Digital First Communities program, which is addressing questions about infrastructure, water use and data center operations.
The meetings come as Camden County’s six-month moratorium on data centers approaches expiration. The Camden County Board of County Commissioners held a workshop to draft an ordinance governing future developments, while resident Frank Watts expressed opposition to facilities near residential property. The planned Southeast Georgia Innovation Campus includes space for expanding businesses and could eventually host a data center facility.
