Monroe Township firefighters get new training center amid area growth
The Monroe Township Fire Department received a $320,000 grant from Williams to help build a specialized public safety training facility. The project responds to rising call volumes linked to rapid construction and data center growth near New Albany.
Rapid development in the greater New Albany area has increased calls for the Monroe Township Fire Department, including a 16% rise in areas near data centers over the past year. Overall call volume has grown 12%, prompting the department to expand its emergency-preparedness capabilities.
A $320,000 grant from Williams is advancing plans for a regional public safety training complex in Monroe Township. Assistant Chief Josh Harris said the facility will support firefighting, search-and-rescue and technical-rescue training, while allowing neighboring departments that provide mutual aid to train together. The department hopes to complete the facility by the middle of next year.
