Stokes County Considers Rezoning Application for Hyperscale AI Data Centers

Project Delta has submitted a new re-zoning application for the development of 8 to 10 hyperscale AI data centers on 1,848 acres of farmland along the Dan River in Stokes County, North Carolina. This development, significantly larger than traditional data centers, is facing considerable local opposition.
The submission comes after a precedent set in neighboring Forsyth County, where the Forsyth County Commissioners, responding to citizen opposition and a Planning Board recommendation, denied a re-zoning request on July 30 for a single hyperscale AI data center known as “Iron Spur” on 129 acres near Rural Hall.
Stokes County citizens are actively opposing Project Delta, citing concerns about irreversible negative impacts, dangers, and resource strain. The Stokes County Planning Board is scheduled to meet on Thursday, August 13, at 6 p.m. in the Commissioners’ Chambers to consider the re-zoning application, with the meeting open to the public.
