Kershaw County Council has unanimously approved a 12-month moratorium on any governmental action related to data centers and associated facilities. The ordinance passed its third and final reading during a council meeting on Tuesday, September 22, and became effective immediately.
The measure aims to provide the county with a year to conduct further study and gather public input regarding future data center developments. Councilman Danny Catoe, representing District 6, emphasized the necessity of the ordinance, stating that it would allow the council to address community concerns and determine future policy direction for the county's growth and infrastructure.
