Aldermen passed the proposal, which effectively pauses new data center proposals to allow the city to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of best practices moving forward.
This moratorium, however, explicitly excludes a possible Monarch Energy data center project. The exclusion is due to an existing agreement for that specific site that already permits data center development, indicating the new regulations will only apply to future, unapproved projects.
