Montgomery County data center summit postponed, DiBello says

Montgomery County, PA Commissioner Tom DiBello has postponed a data center summit originally scheduled for March 18th. DiBello cited scheduling conflicts with certain providers and growing security concerns as reasons for the delay. The summit was expected to provide information on the real impacts of data center development, including energy demand, water usage, infrastructure strain, and community effects. Data centers have been a point of controversy in several nearby townships, including East Vincent, Limerick, North Coventry, and Plymouth. Residents have expressed concerns about environmental impacts, nuisance issues, and the economic development implications of these facilities. An application for a nearly 2 million-square-foot data center in Plymouth Township was eventually withdrawn after facing significant public opposition. Community groups have called for data center moratoriums and ordinances to protect local interests. The postponed summit was intended to provide balanced information to support residents' positions for or against data centers in the region. Commissioner DiBello stated that the information would still be important to share, despite the delay. No new date has been set for the rescheduled event.
