Logan County's zoning committee has recommended a new 90-day moratorium on data center construction with a 3-2 vote. This decision followed extensive debate involving potential developer Hut 8, with warnings that a moratorium could jeopardize the project due to an expiring agreement with Ameren. The Logan County Board is now set to make a final decision on the proposed moratorium.

The Logan County zoning committee has voted 3 to 2 to recommend a new 90-day moratorium on data center construction. This recommendation follows months of debate and a previous 60-day moratorium, with the latest vote occurring after two hours of discussion between developer Hut 8, committee members, and the public.
Those opposing the moratorium, including committee member Dale Nelson, emphasized the project's potential to generate jobs and $65 million in property taxes for the county, suggesting that without new revenue, property taxes might increase. Conversely, proponents of the moratorium, such as committee member Bob Sanders, expressed the need for more information, particularly regarding the data center's impact, citing previous concerns about battery storage facilities.
Greg Irwin of Hut 8 warned that any moratorium could lead to the project's demise as their agreement with Ameren is set to expire. The final decision now rests with the Logan County Board, which will hold a special meeting to vote on the committee's recommendation.
