Granbury residents express frustration with data centers, criticize Gov. Abbott
Residents of Granbury, Texas, are expressing strong frustration over data center developments, citing negative impacts like noise, wildlife loss, and harm to livestock, specifically from Marathon Digital. They feel abandoned by Governor Greg Abbott and are considering "breaking rank" from their traditional Republican voting habits over the issue.
State Representative Gina Hinojosa, running against Governor Greg Abbott, met with long-time residents of Granbury, Texas, to hear their frustrations regarding local data center developments.
Residents Tom Weeks and Cheryl Shadden, who have lived in Granbury for decades, detailed the negative impacts, including constant noise from Marathon Digital, which they describe as "horrendous." They also reported adverse effects on local wildlife and livestock, with neighbors experiencing horse deaths and cattle reproduction issues. The residents expressed feeling that their lives and Hood County have worsened "under Abbott's regime."
The residents stated they are "breaking rank" from their traditional Republican voting habits, feeling that Abbott and other Republicans have turned their backs on voters. They interpret Governor Abbott's promise to "look at this next year" as an empty gesture, suggesting it's a way to delay action until after the election. The group emphasized that the issue is not about partisan politics but about "human rights," and many Republicans affected by data centers, gas power plants, and AI developments across Texas are prepared to vote differently.
