Menomonie working on data center zoning regulations
The City of Menomonie is advancing new zoning regulations for data centers, which will address issues like light and noise pollution, and water usage. The final draft of the ordinance is expected to be introduced to the city council in early August for review, though no immediate action will be taken. These regulations cannot, by law, ban data centers outright.
The City of Menomonie, Wisconsin, is moving forward with new zoning regulations specifically designed for data centers. Mayor Matthew Crowe announced in a press release that the final draft of the ordinance is slated for introduction to the city council in early August.
The proposed regulations aim to address concerns such as light and noise pollution, as well as water usage, stemming from data center operations. However, the ordinance is legally constrained from implementing an outright ban on data centers within the city limits. This initiative to establish new zoning guidelines was originally approved in January, and residents will have the opportunity to review the ordinance in late July.
