City in Michigan evaluating noise ordinances ahead of data center, gas generation plant

The City of Marshall is considering adopting a noise ordinance as the Marshall Technology & Energy Center will be built on the Brooks Industrial Park off of 17 Mile Road. The sale was authorized in October of 2025 by the Local Development Finance Authority for $1.12 million. Alterra Group, a developmental company that specializes in outdoor storage and commercial buildings, also plans to build a gas generation plant. Marshall Mayor Scott Wolfersberger told News Channel 3 city staff has brought forward more than half a dozen possible ordinances, and they're reviewing those now. The data center is a foregone conclusion, as the land is already zoned for it. Data centers can often emit a humming sound, which can be detrimental to residents.
