Proposal For Coal City Data Center Project Could Happen in July

More than 10 individuals spoke in opposition to a proposed data center campus at a Coal City Village Board meeting this week. Village officials indicate a public hearing will be held for the project, and a formal proposal from Aligned Data Center could occur in July.

Residents of Coal City expressed strong opposition at a recent Village Board meeting regarding a proposed data center campus south of the city. Over ten individuals spoke out against the project, with one speaker having to regain composure during their address.

Village Attorney Mark Heinle assured attendees that a public hearing on the project's future would be held, potentially over multiple nights, with ample public notification. Meanwhile, Mayor David Spesia announced that Aligned Data Centers is expected to submit a formal proposal for the large-scale project in July.

The public comment section of the meeting was broadcast, and previous interviews with an Aligned representative and members of the Coal City Data Opposition group were also highlighted by WCSJ.
