The Louisville Metro Office of Planning is recommending the implementation of stricter regulations for future data center developments within Jefferson County. This initiative follows an extensive 30-day public comment period during which the office received more than 3,600 submissions.
The proposed regulations would specifically target hyperscale data centers larger than 500,000 square feet, limiting their construction to industrial areas only. Developers would also be required to adhere to enhanced standards designed to safeguard neighborhoods, existing infrastructure, and utility customers, addressing concerns such as the size and noise generated by these facilities. The initial proposal was published in June, and the public will have another opportunity for comments at a meeting at JCTC Southwest Campus.
