DeKalb County board affirms denial of data center proposal

The DeKalb County Zoning Board recently affirmed its previous denial of Shadowbox Studios' proposal to construct a multi-million dollar data center on its property. This decision upholds a countywide moratorium on data centers that the county's Board of Commissioners had previously enacted and extended.
Shadowbox Studios made its case before the Zoning Board, arguing that the county had on three occasions indicated it could install a new data center on its land. The studio also contends that the moratorium itself is not legally binding. Lawyers for Shadowbox stated that the company invested $37 million in preparing its Southeast Atlanta land for this conversion.
Despite these arguments, the Zoning Board, citing an ongoing lawsuit initiated by Shadowbox Studios, affirmed the original denial. The board indicated that the matter appeared to be a judicial issue. The lawsuit challenging the moratorium and the denial is currently progressing through the court system.
