Neighbors concerned as developer considers data center in Delaware County
Residents in Trainer and Marcus Hook, Delaware County, are concerned about a proposed data center by Link Logistics on Ridge Road in Trainer. Residents across several Delaware County communities, particularly in Trainer and neighboring Marcus Hook, are expressing significant concerns regarding a potential data center development. The proposed facility, eyed by developer Link Logistics, would be located on a property along Ridge Road in Trainer, in close proximity to residential areas.
Lorraine Delassio, a local resident, conveyed her dismay, stating she did not anticipate such a development near her home after moving there 14 years ago. Link Logistics confirmed to NBC10 that they received a "favorable Preliminary Opinion" from Trainer Borough regarding zoning, but emphasized this is not a building permit and no formal proposals have been submitted. The company stated that if they decide to proceed, transparent community engagement will be a key part of the planning process.
Despite the developer's statement, residents from both Trainer and Marcus Hook gathered for a community meeting, uniting to "fight back" against the project. Christine Reeder questioned why their less affluent neighborhood was chosen, while Zulene Mayfield, chairperson of Chester Residents Concerned with Quality Living, noted the widespread fear and desire to learn and collectively oppose the project. Many attendees voiced concerns about adding to existing pollution burdens in the area. Trainer Borough officials and the mayor confirmed they are aware of the proposed project but have not received any formal applications or granted any formal approvals, leaving residents in a state of anticipation.
