Plans have been announced to transform the former Titus Generating Station in Cumru Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania, into a 200-megawatt AI data center campus by Titus Development Company and Go Energy Group. This project marks the first AI data center in Berks County, following Cumru Township's recent adoption of a data center ordinance to regulate development. While the project is still in the planning stages with no formal submission to the township, it leverages existing industrial infrastructure and aims to serve major East Coast markets.

The site of the former Titus Generating Station in Cumru Township, Pennsylvania, is set to be transformed into a large-scale artificial intelligence (AI) data center and digital infrastructure campus. Site owner Titus Development Company has partnered with Houston-based Go Energy Group, a developer specializing in AI and digital infrastructure, to create the TRON USA AI Campus on the 196-acre property.
The initial phase of the project is slated to include a 200-megawatt AI data center campus, leveraging the site's industrial zoning, existing electrical infrastructure, regional transmission access, and fiber connectivity. The development aims to link major metropolitan markets like Philadelphia and New York. Developers highlighted the site's redevelopment readiness, including environmental analysis and utility coordination, as key factors in its selection.
Cumru Township recently became the first municipality in Berks County to enact a data center ordinance, which establishes an overlay district around the former Titus Station property and restricts data center development to that specific area. Township Commissioner Greg Miller noted that the ordinance was put in place to ensure community protection, stating that compliance with its provisions would be crucial. However, formal plans for the project have not yet been submitted to the township.
The announcement comes amidst a rapid growth in the AI data center industry, which has faced significant opposition in other communities due to concerns regarding environmental impact, noise, and electricity supply. Joseph D’Ascenzo, Chairman of Titus Development Company, expressed confidence that the project represents a new chapter for the property, transforming legacy energy infrastructure into a modern economic engine for advanced computing and positioning Berks County as a key digital infrastructure hub.
