A proposed data center in downtown Tyler, Texas, encountered a significant hurdle when the Tyler Planning and Zoning Commission voted 5 to 2 against recommending a special use permit for the project. The facility, planned near West Irwin Street and North Ross Avenue, was proposed by Brial Resources.

Ahead of the commission's meeting, several local residents expressed their concerns about the development and urged commissioners to reject the proposal.

Despite this setback for the developer, the commission's vote is not the final decision. The recommendation will now be forwarded to the Tyler City Council, which holds the authority to make the ultimate determination on the data center proposal.
