Habersham County officials, including Public Information Officer Ashlyn Brady, have revised their proposed Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) and are soliciting community input before an April 13 public town hall. The county has already addressed some concerns, such as removing a derelict vehicle ordinance, and is continuing to evaluate other provisions. A significant aspect of the proposed UDO is its approach to data center development. While the county cannot outright ban data centers, the ordinance would mandate that all data center projects secure a special use permit. This process would require separate approvals from both the Habersham County Planning Commission and the Board of Commissioners. County leaders emphasized that the UDO is a dynamic document, subject to ongoing changes based on feedback. The town hall will be held at 6 p.m. on April 13 at the Ruby Fulbright Aquatic Center to present updates and gather further public comments.
