Concerns about Bitcoin data center impact in East TN

Residents in Jellico, Campbell County, East Tennessee, are expressing significant concerns regarding the impact of a Bitcoin mining data center operated by CleanSpark on their electricity bills. The facility, located on Douglas Lane, is known for its high electricity consumption. Local residents have reported a noticeable increase in their utility bills since October, with one resident's bill reaching over $800 and then $1082, nearly triple her average. In response, she initiated a petition calling for a review of the data center's impact, which has garnered nearly 700 signatures. She plans to present this petition to the Jellico City Council as early as this week. The CEO of the local utility indicated that there is no cap on how much electricity these centers can consume.
