The Missouri Association of Counties hosted a private summit in Jefferson City to discuss the potential benefits and impacts of artificial intelligence data centers on the state. The event, held on Wednesday, was exclusively for members of the Missouri Association of Counties, Missouri Municipal League, and Missouri School Board Association, and was closed to the public and media.
Boone County Commissioner Janet Thompson, who attended the summit, highlighted the potential for data centers to create jobs and retain young talent in communities. Concurrently, Missouri residents gathered at the Capitol rotunda on the same day, wearing red to protest against the development of data centers in their communities.
