Google sets sights on western Iowa for new data center

MidAmerican Energy announced that tech giant Google has expressed interest in developing a large 900-acre data center site in Salix, Iowa, located just south of Sioux City in western Iowa. To ensure transparency, the energy company sent a letter to area residents and local leaders informing them of Google's potential project. Google representatives highlighted the company's global goal to replenish 120% of its water usage by 2030, emphasizing efforts to exceed this target.
Officials also clarified that Google would bear all costs for project-specific infrastructure, preventing local utility customers from facing increased bills due to the development. As of the current report, neither a rezoning request nor a development application has been formally submitted for the proposed data center.
