Anti-data center events planned across Washington Sunday
Activists and allied groups planned more than 20 events across Washington as part of a statewide Day of Action opposing new data center construction. Organizers are calling for a moratorium until rules address impacts on residents, communities and the environment.
Washington AI Resistance and allied groups announced more than 20 events across Washington for Oct. 4, including gatherings in Seattle, Tacoma, Olympia, Mountlake Terrace, Bainbridge Island, Spokane, Wenatchee, Walla Walla and Moses Lake. Four events were planned in Seattle at the John Lewis Memorial Bridge, Fauntleroy Way Southwest, Beacon Hill and the University of Washington.
The statewide demonstrations are intended to pressure officials to pause construction of new data centers. Organizers said a moratorium should remain in place until regulations are developed to address costs and environmental impacts affecting residents and communities.
