Data center company plans up to $1,000 a year in tax, utility credits for De Soto households
Digital Realty says it will invest $20 million to provide De Soto households with up to $1,000 per year in property and utility tax credits for 10 years as it develops the proposed Astra North data center campus. The project faces local opposition, while the De Soto City Council has commissioned a study of noise regulations amid data center growth.
Digital Realty is proposing the Astra North data center campus at De Soto's Astra Enterprise Park, with plans for about nine buildings totaling roughly 3 million square feet on 280 acres. The company says it will invest $20 million to provide households in De Soto with up to $1,000 annually in property and utility tax credits for a decade, although the arrangement with the city has not been finalized. Digital Realty President and CEO Andy Power said the payments are intended to provide residents with benefits before the campus generates recurring tax revenue.
The broader development, which could eventually include the much larger Astra South phase, has drawn opposition from De Soto residents, including a petition against additional data center projects. The city also approved a contract with Black & Veatch Corporation to study its noise regulations, with results expected by March 2027. A separate campus proposed by Beale Infrastructure, using power from Evergy, is also planned in De Soto and is expected to require more than 75 megawatts.
