During its June 22, 2026, meetings, the Homewood City Council extensively discussed and subsequently approved a temporary moratorium on new large-scale data center applications. This pause is intended to provide the city with sufficient time to research the potential impacts of data centers and formulate specific zoning and development standards. City officials clarified that there are no pending data center applications currently under review in Homewood, emphasizing the proactive nature of the moratorium, which aims to establish clear guidelines rather than to permanently prohibit data centers.

In other council actions, members reviewed and approved funding for the U.S. 31 access management project, an initiative with the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) focused on safety improvements and pedestrian upgrades. The council also moved forward with a request to rezone property at 2773 and 2777 18th Street South from C-2 to C-4 Central Business District to support the "Provision Studio project."

Additionally, the council addressed several other municipal matters, including reviewing proposed parking lot renovations at 185 Oxmoor Road, discussing budget transfers, and scheduling public hearings for a property rezoning near the Lee Center and a public nuisance declaration on Woodvale Lane. They also considered requests for the vacation of unused alley right-of-way areas on Virginia Drive and Morris Boulevard, with final votes slated for July meetings. Ordinance updates concerning the municipal budget process and the Historic Preservation Commission were also introduced.
