Data center in downtown Columbia to see $4M renovation. What’s in the plans?
DartPoints is investing more than $4.5 million to renovate and expand equipment at its data center in downtown Columbia. City permits cover interior upgrades, mechanical and electrical work, generators, roofing and utility improvements, with no change planned to the building’s size or use.
DartPoints is undertaking more than $4.5 million in renovations at its data center inside the USC/Columbia Innovation Center at 1000 Catawba St. The City of Columbia issued multiple construction permits in September for new partitions, equipment, mechanical and electrical modifications, generator-yard improvements, roof-mounted equipment and related site work.
The Dallas-based company announced in 2025 that it planned to increase capacity at data centers nationwide, including its Columbia facility. DartPoints CTO Brad Alexander said the company is preparing its sites for higher-density workloads and will use hybrid cooling technologies. The Columbia work does not involve expanding the building or changing its use, while the company’s separate Greenville expansion carries a $130 million investment and is expected to increase capacity substantially.
