Festus, Missouri Mayor Sam Richards announced a framework development agreement with CRG for a data center project, representing an initial $6 billion investment. This project is poised to be one of the largest private investments in Jefferson County history.
The announcement comes after significant opposition from residents, who have raised concerns about environmental impacts, including noise, lighting, water usage, and electrical consumption. Dennis McDonald, a resident near the proposed site, highlighted these worries.
Mayor Richards addressed these concerns in his statement, assuring residents that the data center would adhere to all city ordinances, as well as state and federal regulations. He also detailed commitments from CRG, stating the company would not request a property tax abatement and would place no cap on the city's utility tax. The agreement also includes site stipulations for energy, sewage, and water usage, designed to prevent costs from being passed to residents.
The proposed agreement will be presented at an upcoming city council meeting on Monday, March 23rd, which has been moved to Festus High School due to anticipated large public turnout. A special meeting is scheduled for Monday, March 30th, for the city council to vote on the agreement.
