The Montgomery County Commission approved tighter restrictions for future data centers, including increased residential setbacks, noise limits, and controls on water and power use. The amended resolution must return to the Regional Planning Commission and then come back to the County Commission for further consideration.

The Montgomery County Commission in Tennessee approved tighter zoning restrictions for future data centers, including limits on setbacks, noise, water use and power consumption. Following public feedback, commissioners amended the resolution to increase the minimum setback from residential properties from 100 feet to 500 feet.

The amendment sends the resolution back to the Montgomery County Regional Planning Commission for another review before it returns to the County Commission next month. Commissioners discussed postponing the measure and imposing a data center moratorium, but did not approve either action. The Regional Planning Commission may later develop similar protections for consideration by the Clarksville City Council.
