A statewide poll found that 55% of Ohio adults oppose new data center construction, while 65% oppose tax breaks for data center developments. The survey also found majority support for a proposed constitutional amendment banning new large-scale data centers with peak power demands above 25 megawatts, with respondents citing potential water, electricity, environmental and quality-of-life impacts.

A survey of 1,650 Ohio adults conducted by Ohio Northern University’s Institute for Civics and Public Policy and SurveyUSA found broad public opposition to data center development and associated tax incentives. Fifty-five percent opposed constructing data centers in Ohio, compared with 22% who supported construction, while 65% opposed tax breaks and 15% supported them.

The poll also found that 57% of respondents would support a proposed state constitutional amendment banning new large-scale data centers with peak power demands above 25 megawatts. Researchers said concerns included potential increases in local water and electricity costs, as well as broader environmental and quality-of-life effects.
