Four Republican members of the St. Joseph County Council in Indiana have taken a hard line against data centers, advocating for an outright ban on any new hyperscale data centers. Council member B. Drake stated that this push reflects the will of the people who "don't want any more data centers."
An ordinance proposing this ban was filed recently and is scheduled to be heard by the end of September. This initiative comes days after local Democratic council member Gentian Baz and other Democratic nominees also called for a full ban, rather than a temporary pause, on new data center developments. Both political factions appear to be in agreement on the need for a complete prohibition.
