DC BLOX has filed permit applications with Metro Nashville to construct a new data center on Grassmere Park, adjacent to the Nashville Zoo. The project involves demolishing two existing office buildings on the 23-acre site.

Nashville Zoo President and CEO Rick Schwarz expressed strong concerns, particularly regarding the potential for noise and light pollution to negatively affect sensitive animal species, disrupting their photo periods and life cycles. Local resident Sarah Reap, whose family lives near the zoo, also voiced opposition, citing potential negative impacts on her family and property, describing the area as their "forever home."

Public pushback against the proposal is growing, with an online petition quickly accumulating over 150,000 signatures in approximately one day. Nashville Mayor Freddy O'Connell acknowledged the proposal, noting that his administration is investigating an unusual aspect: a non-owner of the property, presumably DC BLOX, appears to be applying for a building permit. The grading permit application is currently undergoing Metro's review process, indicating the project is in its early phases.
