PowerTransitions, the company holding a lease agreement over the former Vermont Yankee site, hosted an informational meeting at the Governor Hunt House on Wednesday, Sept. 23.
In the public invite, the company encouraged Vernon community members to "[m]eet the PowerTransitions team, learn more about our company and our presence in the community, and share your questions and thoughts with us."
The town of Vernon previously held a listening session about the site on Aug. 25. Residents of the town have said at previous public meetings they want a more open dialogue with PowerTransitions.
PowerTransitions has a lease agreement with NorthStar, the company that purchased it from previous owner Entergy Nuclear in 2019, according to previous reporting by the Reformer. NorthStar has been working to clean up the site for it to be approved for reuse. Ideas for potential future use have included battery storage, a data center or a modular nuclear reactor.
