The Gallatin City Council is set to discuss a proposed moratorium on data centers, along with comprehensive zoning changes and the reclassification of rural land for industrial use. This meeting will also address the annexation of 125 acres near a Meta data center campus, which is speculated to be for future expansion. These actions reflect a regional effort in Middle Tennessee to regulate data center development.

The Gallatin City Council committee is set to convene on Tuesday, July 14, to address several significant land use and development proposals. A key item on the agenda includes the discussion of a moratorium on new data center construction within the city, reflecting a broader trend among Middle Tennessee municipalities like Davidson County, Wilson County, and La Vergne to impose stricter regulations on such developments.

Concurrently, the council will consider substantial changes to the city's zoning framework. This involves updating the "PlanGallatin map," specifically reclassifying 255 acres of rural land to general urban to facilitate the expansion of the "Gallatin Gateway Industrial Center." Furthermore, the council will deliberate on replacing the existing zoning ordinance with a new "City of Gallatin, Tennessee zoning ordinance" and an updated zoning map.

Adding to the discussion, city officials recently approved two resolutions for the annexation of approximately 125 acres situated west of Brights Lane and south of Highway 31 East. This newly incorporated property, now part of City Council District 1, is located adjacent to a Meta data center campus. Although the resolutions did not specify its future use, there is ongoing speculation that this annexed land could be designated for the expansion of Meta's data center operations.
