A special application for a controversial data center development at 900 Conshohocken Road in Plymouth Township, Pennsylvania, is scheduled for another public meeting tonight at Colonial Middle School. Developer Brian O'Neill submitted the application to transform the former Cleveland-Cliffs still production facility into a nearly 2 million square foot data center.
The proposed project has faced significant opposition from local residents and the Township Council for several months. Concerns include potential pollution, increased noise, and a negative impact on the overall quality of life for the approximately 9,000 people living within a square mile radius of the proposed site. A community leader emphasized that the residential area is not an appropriate location for such a facility.
The decision on the special application rests with the Zoning Board. In addition to the ongoing zoning process, the developer, Brian O'Neill, has also initiated a separate legal challenge, arguing that the current zoning ordinance does not adequately provide for data centers.
