COLUMBUS, Ohio – Google announced a $10 million funding initiative aimed at improving community water sources, public infrastructure, and watershed management throughout Ohio. This commitment is part of the tech giant's strategy for responsible natural resource management in areas where its data centers operate.

As the first phase of this initiative, Google will provide an initial $3 million grant to the Ohio Department of Agriculture's H2Ohio Farmland Water Management Program. The funds are designated to enhance farmland drainage structures across the state.

Ben Townsend, Google's Global Head of Infrastructure Strategy & Sustainability, emphasized the critical role of water for ecosystems and communities, stating that as data centers evolve, the company has a responsibility to protect water resources and invest in infrastructure. This new funding builds on Google's existing environmental efforts in Ohio, including wetland restoration. Globally, Google aims to replenish more freshwater than its data centers and offices consume by 2030, having already committed over $500 million to water infrastructure worldwide.
