How one Georgia city went from considering a data center to banning them
Lovejoy leaders updated the city’s zoning code to prohibit data centers, reversing a December rezoning that had enabled a proposed $1 billion computing campus. The project was abandoned after community backlash, and the new rules prevent other data centers from locating in the city.
Lovejoy, Georgia, abandoned plans for its first data center after backlash over a proposed $1 billion computing campus. The project, which developers said would have exceeded the floor space of Atlanta’s Lenox Square mall by more than two times, was no longer moving forward 10 months after it was proposed.
Lovejoy leaders then amended the city’s zoning code to explicitly prohibit data centers. The action reversed a December rezoning that had allowed the project and effectively bars future data center development in the Clayton County community.
