Augusta Planning Commission to keep 14-day rule in new data center ordinance
Augusta’s Planning Commission is continuing work on a new zoning ordinance that includes provisions affecting data center development. The ordinance is still being revised and is expected to return to the commission for a vote in November or December.
Augusta officials and residents reviewed a proposed replacement for the city’s zoning ordinance, which has not been comprehensively updated since 1963. Planning Commission Chairman Jeffrey Pooser said the revisions are needed to accommodate population growth and modernize the city’s zoning districts.
The ordinance remains under review, with consultants and county staff expected to make additional changes before bringing it back to the Augusta Planning Commission for a vote in November or December. The meeting also focused heavily on short-term rental rules, including the city’s 14-day provision, which officials said would remain in effect.
