San Antonio City Council members are weighing two options for regulating future data centers: restricting the locations where they may operate or requiring direct City Council approval. The proposals are intended to give officials and residents more information and oversight during the development process.

Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones is seeking broader requirements that would combine the two approaches with air-quality testing, public input and disclosure of anticipated energy consumption. The council is expected to make a final decision on the proposed zoning changes Oct. 29.
