Cranbury has become one of several New Jersey municipalities to prohibit data centers. The Cranbury Township Committee approved the local ban after residents and the Climate Revolution Action Network organized for restrictions, citing potential effects on the environment, infrastructure and quality of life.

CRAN and allied groups, including the Pinelands Alliance, Food & Water Watch and Sustain South Jersey, are seeking a three-year statewide moratorium from Gov. Mikie Sherrill and the New Jersey Legislature. Advocates say statewide action is needed to provide consistent protections and address concerns about utility costs, noise pollution and air emissions.
