The Nashville Zoo is urging residents to attend a Metro Council public hearing to oppose a proposed DC BLOX data center next to the zoo. They are asking for support for a temporary moratorium on new data centers and a bill to allow the city to acquire or condemn the property.

The Nashville Zoo is actively urging local residents to attend a Metro Council public hearing this week to oppose a proposed data center planned for a site next to the zoo. The public hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, July 7, at 1 Public Square.

The zoo is asking residents to advocate for three key items: first, to suspend rules to allow Mayor Freddie O'Connell's bill to acquire or condemn the property to be added to the agenda and passed on first reading; second, to support a bill establishing strong protections and rules for data center construction in Davidson County; and third, to support a temporary moratorium on new data center projects until these new rules are in place.

This push comes as the zoo continues its opposition to Atlanta-based DC BLOX, the company planning the data center. An attorney representing DC BLOX recently informed city commissioners that they possess the necessary permits and the project is moving forward, stating, "This building is vested. They're going to build their. We already have the permits in hand." DC BLOX did not confirm this information to WSMV when reached for comment last week. The company expressed a desire to work with the community to find a solution.
