Spokane County Commissioners pass resolution extending data center development pause
Spokane County Commissioners unanimously extended the pause on accepting data center land-use and permit applications until June 1, 2027, or until the county completes its zoning text amendment process. The extension followed residents’ calls for a longer pause and greater transparency and will cover the 2027 state legislative session.
Spokane County Commissioners unanimously approved a resolution extending Spokane County’s pause on data center development. The pause will remain in effect through June 1, 2027, or until the county completes its zoning text amendment process, whichever comes first.
During the extension, the county will not accept land-use or permit applications for data centers. The action followed residents’ requests for a longer development pause and more transparency, while county officials anticipate that Washington state legislators may address the issue during the 2027 legislative session.
