Takanock hosted an informational open house at the Strasburg Public Works facility to discuss Project Tallmadge, a proposed data center campus and natural-gas power plant in the Strasburg Industrial Park. Company materials projected average daily water use of 6,588 gallons, approximately 2,000 construction jobs, about 100 permanent positions and roughly $1.4 billion in combined local tax revenue over 30 years. The project’s site plan approval is projected for early 2027, with construction beginning afterward and the full campus expected to be complete by 2030.

Residents questioned the project’s noise, water demand, cooling system additives, emissions, local hiring and community benefits. Takanock said the campus would primarily use the power grid, with turbines serving as backup and providing electricity to the regional transmission grid, while a sound study and final cooling-system design remain underway. Some attendees said the event answered their questions, but others—including local opponents and residents from Frederick County—remained skeptical and opposed to additional data center development in the area.
